In the first ten months of this year, 9,887 newborns were registered in Latvia — 10.1% fewer, or 1,108 fewer births, than in the same period of 2024, according to provisional data released by the Central Statistical Bureau.
Of the newborns registered in the first ten months of 2025, 5,162 were boys, representing a decrease of 3.8% or 204 compared with the same period last year, while 4,725 were girls — a decline of 16.1% or 904.
In October alone, 1,004 newborns were registered in Latvia, which is 1.6% or 16 fewer than in October 2024.
Of these, 519 were boys and 485 were girls.
During the first ten months of this year, 21,325 deaths were registered in Latvia, down 3.7% or 820 compared with the same period in 2024, when 22,145 deaths were recorded.
As a result, the number of deaths exceeded the number of births by 11,438 in the first ten months of this year, compared with an excess of 11,150 deaths over births in the corresponding period last year.
In the first ten months of 2025, a total of 9,625 marriages were registered in Latvia, which is 7.3% or 658 more than in the same period of 2024.
As of the 1st of November this year, Latvia’s provisional population stood at 1.826 million.
