On Monday, skies will be mostly cloudy. During the night, precipitation — rain and wet snow — is expected only in eastern parts of the country, while during the day rain clouds will spread to other regions as well, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. Winds will be light to moderate from the north-west and west. Both the minimum night-time and maximum daytime air temperatures will range between 0 and +6°C.
On Tuesday, skies will gradually clear from the north-east, meaning that local precipitation — mainly wet snow and snow — is expected only during the night. Icy conditions may form on some road sections. Fog will also develop in places overnight, reducing visibility. Winds will be light to moderate from the east and north-east. Tuesday will be noticeably colder than recent days: in western Latvia, minimum night-time and maximum daytime temperatures will range between +1 and −4°C, while in eastern regions it will be several degrees colder, at −5 to −10°C.
On Wednesday,
both the daytime and Christmas Eve will pass under calm weather conditions — cloudy but dry
— with light to moderate westerly winds. However, even in western Latvia, where it had previously been milder, temperatures will drop. Night-time temperatures across the country will fall to between −3 and −8°C, while daytime temperatures will rise only to −2 to +3°C.
No precipitation is expected on Christmas Day itself, although skies will remain mostly cloudy. During the night into the 25th of December, temperatures will drop below 0°C in many areas. Later, as a warmer air mass moves over Latvia, temperatures will rise again, generally remaining within the range of 0 to +5°C.
